About Me

Hello. I am Teresa Johnston, a Person-Centred Counsellor and Mindfulness teacher based in Falkirk. I am glad you are here.

Perhaps you have been carrying something for a while. Perhaps you are not quite sure how to name it yet. Whatever has brought you here, you do not need to arrive with the right words. We can find them together.

I am Teresa Johnston, a Person-Centred and Humanistic Counsellor and a Mindfulness Meditation teacher, based at Callendar House in Falkirk. I work with adults who are navigating grief, anxiety, burnout, life transitions, and the quieter, harder-to-name difficulties that can settle into a life over time.

My approach

Warm, steady, and collaborative. We move at a pace that feels right for you, with space to notice what is happening in your body as well as your mind. I will not rush you toward insight or push you toward resolution before you are ready. My role is to be genuinely present with you, and to help you find your own ground.

Mindfulness runs through everything I do, not as a technique to perform, but as a way of paying kind attention to what is actually here.

Background and training

My path to counselling was not a straight line, and I think that has made me a better companion for the people I sit with. I trained first as a radiation therapist, working for years in cancer care on both sides of the Atlantic. I supported people living with and beyond cancer at Maggie’s. I worked alongside neurodivergent university students navigating systems that were not always built with them in mind. Each of those chapters taught me something about what it means to be alongside someone in difficulty, without trying to fix or diminish what they are carrying.

I hold an MSc in Psychology from the University of Stirling, and I am a certified Mindfulness teacher. I am a registered member of BACP, COSCA, and the British Psychological Society.

Areas I work with

Grief, complex grief, and bereavement. Anxiety, panic, and low mood. Burnout, overwhelm, and caregiver stress. Health concerns, medical experiences, and life after treatment. Life transitions, identity, and self-esteem. Relationship patterns and attachment. Neurodivergence-informed support for ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and dyspraxia. Stress, sleep difficulties, and mindfulness for daily life.

Finding me

I offer sessions online and in person at Callendar House, Callendar Park, Falkirk, FK1 1YR. There is free parking, a café, and full wheelchair access.

If you are not sure whether counselling is right for you, or whether we might be a good fit, I offer a free 15-minute introductory call. There is no pressure and no obligation. It is simply a chance to talk, and to see how it feels.

I work in a Person-Centred and Humanistic way, which means you set the pace and we focus on what matters most to you. There is no fixed agenda. Mindfulness and self-compassion are woven through our work together, so that what you discover here becomes something you can actually feel in your body and carry into daily life.

I work with adults online and in person at Callendar House in Falkirk. I also offer Walking Therapy in Callendar Park, for those who find that movement helps things open up a little more easily. Sessions can be short term or longer term, shaped around what you need.

I engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development, with a current interest in Emotion Focused Therapy, grief practice, and trauma-informed approaches. I take this work seriously because you deserve a counsellor who does.

It is a genuine privilege to sit with someone as they find steadier ground, soften the voice of self-criticism, and begin to reconnect with what gives their life meaning. That is why I do this work. And it is why I will show up fully for you.
